Serra Club Vocation Prayer Chalice Program

Comes to The Shrine of St. Anne School

The Serra Club Vocation Prayer Chalice Program will be introduced to the students of The Shrine of St. Anne School on Thursday, March 8 at the all-school Mass at 2 PM.  The purpose is to promote vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life among the faithful.  By charging communities and individuals with the responsibility to pray for vocations and to seek community participation, this program hopes to foster unity among parish groups and to encourage men and women to ask the question, “What if God is calling me?”

Typically done through the Parish, the Shrine of St. Anne Serra Club has expanded the program to include the school to inform and raise awareness among our youth about the concept of vocation, become better acquainted with the way in which God calls each of us in life, and emphasize the need for more priests and religious in our communities.

Mr. Larry Beaver, Shrine of St. Anne parishioner and longtime Serra Club leader, along with the newly appointed program chaplain, Father Greg Ames of Spirit of Christ, and Father Sean McGrath, Pastor of The Shrine of St. Anne will help promote the program at the school.

Upon initiation of the program, each class at the school will display the chalice and follow the daily Vocation Prayer Guide and Discussion Questions.  Each week, Father Sean will present the Chalice and book to the next participating class.

Mr. Larry Beaver and Father Greg Ames have been invited to visit classes to further elaborate on the history and meaning of the program and how it has positively influenced persons to recognize their calling.

In 2018-2019, the program will expand to permit the Chalice and book to be checked out by school families for a week.

The Serra Club is a named after the Franciscan Missionary, Junipero Serra, the founder of many of the California Missions.  It was founded in 1935 in Seattle by a small group of Catholic laymen who saw the need to foster vocations to religious life, both by recruiting vocations and by supporting those religious in their active careers.  Mr. Larry Beaver invites the youth and adults in the school community to join the Serra Club.  He may be reached at ldbeaver@msn.com
